Announcement of 9/11/2008 Washington DC fundraiser for the Flight 93 memorial, cancelled August 2008

As of 8-19-2008, the families of Flight 93 were told that the 9/11/2008 tribute and fundraiser in DC had been cancelled. The event was publicly announced last month, via a posting at HonorFlight93.org (http://www.honorflight93.org/files/news/capital-tribute-07162008.pdf). That link is no longer operative, but Google still had the text cached under its "view as HTML" option on 8-20-2008:

“A COMMON FIELD ONE DAY …A FIELD OF HONOR FOREVER”

WASHINGTON, DC EVENT PAYS TRIBUTE TO FLIGHT 93 HEROES

The Campaign for the Flight 93 National Memorial is organizing A National Tribute to the 40 Heroes of Flight 93, in the nation’s capital to benefit construction of the Flight 93 National Memorial. The event will take place on September 11, 2008, marking seven years since this terrible tragedy.

This evening event will be an opportunity to publicly recognize the bravery and sacrifice of the 40 passengers and crewmembers, whose actions aboard Flight 93 ultimately saved the lives of countless people living and working in Washington, DC on 9/11.

An impressive Honorary Host Committee has been assembled consisting of over 200 members of Congress and the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Special state delegations from Pennsylvania and California are also being organized for the event.

A National Tribute will recognize many of the Flight 93 Partners who are working together to build the National Memorial. The partners include the Families of Flight 93, Flight 93 Federal Advisory Commission, Flight 93 Memorial Task Force, National Park Service, and National Park Foundation. A number of outstanding campaign donors will also be honored at this event.

“This event is a chance for many in the Washington, DC area to express a debt of gratitude to the passengers and crewmembers of Flight 93 for fighting back to save American lives,” said Chris T. Sullivan, Campaign Chairman. “It is for them that we are hosting this event and building the National Memorial.”

Approximately 1,000 guests are expected to attend a VIP reception, dinner, and program.
Event sponsorships and table sponsorships are available, and a limited number of individual tickets are available for $500 each.

Proceeds from A National Tribute will benefit the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign. The Campaign is a $30 million effort to support building the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the plane crashed. Plans for the Memorial call for a dedication event in 2011 on the tenth anniversary of Flight 93.
